Terrorism will go on either way (with or without assimilation). It has been going on for decades, pre-dating the war in Iraq. The tourists killed in Bali, for example, were murdered because Australia supported the end of Indonesia's illegal occupation of the former Portugeuse colony of East Timor. The French suffered a number of terrorist attacks in the 1980's. The list is nearly endless.

We could accede to all of Al Queda's demands tomorrow (although I doubt the average resident of Spain or Portugal will be too happy about the restoration of Islamic law on their peninsula) and there would be new demands the day after.
