Compared to today's actions they were like a high form of metal art. Sad to hear a part of your family's history was lost to you. Mauser collectors have their work cut out for them, there are hundreds and hundreds of variations - not a habit I want to acquire - way too expensive. Although, if I ever add one to the collection it would be either the Swedish Mauser or the Persian (Iraq). They literally had crates of unissued Persians with a beautiful cartouche of a lion.
