Grand mufti rules money paid to buy club players is unlawful

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia's Grand Mufti Shaikh Abdul Aziz Al Shaikh, attacked Saudi football teams who pay large amounts of money to acquire players saying they are squandering money on useless things.

In a sermon at a Riyadh mosque, the mufti said competition among football clubs to buy players leads to large amounts being wasted, while the money could have been used for more useful purposes.

He likened the spendthrifts to the "brothers of the devil"
