Radio station silenced

BURUNDIAN police shut down a radio station after authorities ordered the station off the air for insulting media regulators who accused it of election coverage biased in favour of former rebels.

The National Council of Communication, a state regulator of press laws, last week ordered the indefinite suspension of private African Public Radio (RPA), accusing the station's director of describing council members as being ignorant of the practice of journalism.
