The farmers' market IS amazing. Acme bread is really, really good. Is the market as a whole a lot bigger than other farmers' markets, though? When we lived in San Francisco the Green Street farmers' market was very yuppie, and of course San Francisco itself is so very yuppie that I longed for something different. So most Sunday mornings our family would drive to the San Rafael farmers' market, which I thought was more authentic somehow. Then we would stop for an A&W rootbeer float nearby before we got back on the freeway to come home. That was paradise, because San Francisco is too sophisticated to have much food like that, and has no Dairy Queens at all, either. Before I stopped eating dairy products my very favorite treat was a chocolate dipped cone, and there are none of those in San Francisco, either. We went to the country quite often to get them!
