I don't mean to gloat, but what the hell, I will. 55 days per year! It's part of this hardship posting thing. I guess others used to think this was a hard place to live, and they never changed the expat renumeration package.

Since you will be in the neighborhood, why don't you check things out? Make sure you visit the the hills and mts. southeast of Ankara, near Iraq. Be sure to bring along some body armor. Let us know what you find.

Like you're open to new information that doesn't support your pre-conceived notions! Give me a break. Anyway, I will be nowhere near the East part of Turkey, although I will spend three days here

The PKK is the equivalent of ETA in Spain. It is not properly described as the Kurdish Paramilitary in Turkey (laughing again). It is essentially a terrorist/freedom fighter organization. It used to be a major problem for Turkey up until ~10 years ago, but it relatively well behaved at the moment.
