There is a freeze on property tax increases for senior citizens in New Jersey, maybe that's what you're thinking of, but it's only for middle income and below, and you need to fill out a form to get it.

Nope, so far as I know, no freeze on property taxes for seniors statewide in Jersey. There may be some towns that have done so. I seem to recall one that did that got some publicity. And there might well have been discussions in the legislature. And it's political season so there is going to be candidate talk about doing so. But not yet reality.

On the mil, that was the term I was looking for. Memory just took it's usual hike. And you are right. There is nothing automatic about the rate application. It's decided by the local governing bodies. I meant that but I can see didn't say it clearly enough.
