CB, I genuinely appreciate your attempts to talk with me about the Laffer curve.

I should not have brought it up because it takes us all far afield from c2's very good question, which is, given the very large size of the twin deficits we now face, what should be done. As I understand his argument, he takes the genuinely noncontroversial position that it will take both decreases in spending and tax increases to address them.

That's all fairly abstract but well worth pursuing as a conversation.

Like all of us, I will have some points at which I won't give, certain principles of a good society that are fundamental. We will all differ on those. But it might be interesting to see if there is any sort of common ground.

The only serious problem with my issuing that invitation is that I'm not around here much. I'm swamped with other things and find time to do this only rarely now. If the conversation gets interesting, I might find more time. But if it gets unduly contentious or boring or whatever, the other demands on my time take over. I suspect everyone, save Bill, has some sort of version of that.
