If al Quaida extremists take over Pakistan, we basically have WWIII on our hands.

Extremists have been trying to topple Musharraf (Pakistan's President) for awhile now. Pakistan has nuclear arms, so al Quaida could be just one step away from getting nuclear arms.

We never should have started a war with Iraq, but should have focused all efforts on Afghanistan and provide stability to Pakistan given the precarious situation of Pakistan's leadership. If I were the US govt, I'd ask Musharraf to move to a more stable region of Pakistan so his life is in less danger from al Quaida. I think if Musharraf pushes more against the extremists, he might have a 65% chance of being toppled. That's a risk I would minimize if I were in the US govt. The US should help Pakistan build up support against extremists.
