To me, the problem with focusing on gigantic aggregates of billions of tiny, personal interactions is the same one that Adam Smith identified circa 1776. Each person makes each individual transaction based on knowledge acquired during an entire lifetime, based on their own individual needs, wants, and desires. It's impossible to second guess, even at the individual level, and much more so at the aggregate level.

It's folly to believe that you can comprehend the wisdom of these individual transactions unless you're the one buying or selling, and the ultimate folly to believe that you can grasp the wisdom of billions and billions of them better than the people involved.

Government does best by providing public safety and providing a mechanism for enforcement of contracts, and otherwise, getting out of the way.
