The London Times is not bad... The Economist... the Chicago Tribune... Washington Post has long been competing with the NYT for 'widest news coverage' of any East Coast read.

And, don't forget the WSJ. Some of the best in-depth reporting around (and curiously, one of the *funniest* editorial pages you are ever likely to see in a major news paper outside of the old Soviet tomes... always good for a few --- albeit, unintentional --- belly laughs!)
