re:.......how come this guy was shot in the back?

Back of the head to be accurate - the brain stem disconnects motor functions. It shouldn't take three/five shots to get this done unless he missed. I would like to know if he was face down, against a wall or standing up - bullets do go through the head and keep going in some possibly dangerous direction. I heard on CNN (Blitzer) he was being held on the ground by four cops and a fifth shot him in the back of the head - if they didn't have control of his arms I could possibly understand the shooting, but if they had control - the shooting was very likely excessive (bordering on an execution) even with their shoot to kill orders.

Here is what some eyewitnesses are saying:

"By far the most controversial claim is from several witnesses who cast doubt on police statements that they shouted a warning or identified themselves before firing.

Lee Ruston, 32, who was on the platform, said he did not hear any of the three shout "police" or anything like it. Mr Ruston, a company director, said he saw two officers put on blue baseball caps marked "police" but that the frightened electrician could not have seen that because he had his back to the officers and was running with his head down.

Less than a minute later, Mr de Menezes was pinned to the floor of the carriage by two men while a third fired five shots into the base of his skull."

Eric, RE: "Back of the head to be accurate ...(while) being held on the ground by four cops and a fifth shot him in the back of the head "

You're kidding - the guy was shot in the back of the head while be held down by four cops?

And you can say this:

"Was it excessive use of force? Perhaps "

?
