I wasn't talking about safety regs, I was talking about all regulation. It's all over the place, everything you buy is regulated; almost everything you buy is either subsidized or penalized by tax incentives. We are probably the most regulated country in the world.

So here is a proposal that is a true win for society. Reduce gas consumption, reduce dependence of oil imports for political and trade balance benefits (both serious problems), free capital for more productive uses, increase discretionary spending dollars... And unlike most incentives, it is revenue neutral; no drain on the treasury.

If we lived in libertarian utopia, I might understand your objection, but it's quite the opposite. We live in a quagmire of big business regulations and tax incentives.

Maybe you object because this would benefit lower income and younger people rather than big business?
