<Also, local cops are answerable to local gov't which is answerable to the voters at elections. This tends to make those gov'ts want their cops to be civil with civilians even if they are ticketing them or arresting them. Generally, if you are reasonable with them, they will be reasonable with you.

Of course, there are always bad apples in any organization. I'm sure you have some cops who shouldn't be wearing badges.

Bingo. Now you are making sense.

Most police are very sensible and reasonable. Quite a lot are not. Plenty should be reassigned to jobs more suitable for their talents.

What's supposed to happen if you find a bomber suspect.

This week five British tourists in New York were forced to leave their sight-seeing bus and kneel on the pavement after tour staff called police to say there were "suspicious Middle Eastern" men on board.

and

One of the Sikhs thrown off the New York bus gave hope of that when he said: "These things happen don't they? We have no hard feelings".

God bless him for that.

the news piece reveals lots that are going through peoples minds here. They only read the news, they don't study the statistics (i.e they should be careful to look both ways before crossing the street, a much worse risk then stepping on a bus or plane with a Middle Eastern gentleman carrying a rucksack)
