Rumsfield was heavily involved with Reagan-Bush-Saddam, and a father figure to the young GW. They sat together at the GOP convention. Like Cheney, Rummy goes out into the private sector to make millions, but always comes right back. This sort of revolving door is one of the key sources of corruption in our government, where people like Rumsfield or Cheney or Haley Barbour are never totally one thing or another, with separate feet in the administrations and private businesses at almost the same time. Hence the 10+ billion no-bid Halliburton deal and fight to relieve Halliburton of its asbestos liability. Hence, huge spending on the useless SDI program, a Rumsfield pet project. Hence many boondoggles.
