For inner city mass transit systems rails are very practical.

I would think that it would be more practical if the transit vehicle was not confined to a particular route. This would mean a modification to what is classicly thought of as tracks. I think the technology is feasible for the tracks to be just information sources, and perhaps power charging.

My favorite power source is offshore wind farms.
