Gibson will not appear in the film, and he's keeping the plot under wraps. 1511, Spanish landed in Yucatan after a shipwreck. Seven members of the crew sacrified and eaten by natives, one marries a Mayan woman and later will fight against the Spanish. Next contact, 1517, Spaniards came looking for slaves to replace the Arawaks in Cuba, who were dying off. One or both of these contacts brought epidemics smallpox and measles to a population with no natural resistance. Seems apocalyptic to me.
