What about the value added taxes and GST? I think the overall taxes in Canada must be higher then US for them to afford the Health care. But then Canada no longer spends much on Military and relies on US. Hard to analyze.

What other taxes are there in Ontario or Canada?
Payroll
VAT
Sales
Use
Death
Property
GST
Etc.

"Max. combined rate (Federal plus provincial) is about 48%"

From another poster: "One thing it doesn't show is the 7% GST on consumption. Combined with Provincial Sales Taxes - the average is about 15% on all purchases."

Thus if $100 x 52% = $52
Spend $52 x 15% = $8
Receive $52 - 8 = $44 in gods and services.

Ouch that implies 56% taxation.
