Kerry was a true hero during the anti-war movement as well as on the battlefield. If he had done anything wrong, Nixon and his dirty tricks team (including smearvet John O'Neill and ex-con Charles Colson) would have nailed Kerry. They never found any dirt. Kerry had nothing to do with choosing that cover. One of the reasons he quit the VVAW. Some of them were too radical for his taste. The smearvets lie and try to lump Kerry in with all the VVAW leaders. In fact the FBI proves JK was a "moderate" and quickly left the VVAW to take the high road. It worked. Kerry saved a lot of troops and POW's lives. Also remember the war was already a totally lost cause by 1971. Who wants to be the last die for for a mistake? - was the issue
