The consumption tax would be a good deal for me and the flat tax not as good....but I am willing to pay my share one way or the other.

I would wager to say a majority of people are willing to pay their fair share. Of course, you then have to define what a "fair share" is. I believe Article 1 section 8 of the Constitution describes what federal taxes should go for. States should handle the rest...

The consumption tax and a balanced budget amendment would be ideal.

I am not holding my breath on either.
