We aren't going to get wrapped up in a major land war in Asia against China. >>>

Agreed, by major I meant only one with uniformed troops and
a lines of position.

There would be no hanky-panky with Russia or China, they have seen in Iraq how fast a modern war can move.

We have 50 subs and the rest of the Navy loaded up with cruise missiles. A "serious war" that ignores civilians is
beyond more like obliteration and therefore remote.

We will soon need s lot of mothballs.
( Administration probably failed to have plan for that also- might get a shortage)

Tanks are easier to store than aircraft. One way to store them is to give them to friendly Nations, like S.Korea and Taiwan so they will remain fit and ready. Can sell them spare parts.
Politics is changing warfare or potential warfare, and with terrorists at work everywhere, we should get better cooperation and much faster response in forming any needed Coalition.
UN approval would just be a followup (g)

Pentagon must be scrapping old plans and drawing new furiously.
