That's true about the fund-raisers. In fact, most of the money raised through direct mail is spent on more direct mail. Of course, the lists generate income when sold to others as well. Unfortunately, candidates sell their lists of contributors as well (actually their consultants/campaign managers sell the lists).

I'd suggest anonymous postal money orders but don't federal campaign regulations require identification and place of work?

Obviously, this kind of fundraising pitch pulls the best, or they would change it. If nothing else, this kind of direct mail is tested and retested.
