You certainly aren't going to get the truth from the politicians.<gg> Whether or not it was the grand design from the inception of the conflict, there has been a major emphasis in US policy to promote the interests of the Shi'a, except for the Taliban overthrow of Afghanistan. The Sunni radicals will even feast on their own people. They even used their intimidation to overthrow a Sunni based society. Of course, now they are assassinating Sunni leaders from Egypt and Algiers that try to establish relations with the Shi'a government. They kill innocent Sunnis sunbathing during their summer vacations. The Sunni radicals are no longer being perceived as freedom fighters. They are becoming feared as ruthless serial killers by their own people, finally. It never takes people long to learn that once people get the taste of murder in their veins, they do not make very good houseguests.
