According to an Iraqi daily, Saddam Hussein is expected to be sentenced within weeks

Baghdad, 24 July - An Iraqi government newspaper reported on Saturday that deposed Iraqi president Saddam Hussein is expected to be sentenced and executed within weeks. The government-financed Sabah daily quoted unidentified sources close to the court, charged with hearing Saddam Hussein's case, that the verdict will be issued within three weeks against the former president and his top aides.

According to the sources, they expect the first death penalty against the former regime officials to be handed to Saddam Hussein after the special court convicts him on 12 charges of "crimes against humanity". Only last week, the court finished its questioning of the former president over his role in the alleged killing of 150 residents from al-Dujail by the security forces of his regime after a foiled assassination attempt against Saddam Hussein.
