My favorite is the wood tick. Males and females are easily distinguished. They are sensitive to CO2 concentrations, so when they sense you are near their bush, they drop into your collar. You can't feel them moving, and before you know it they are glombed onto your blood stream. They carry a disease called Rocky Mtn. Spotted Fever, which was at one time very dangerous. They created a vaccine for it, and every year as a kid, I had to go to the school to get my tick shot. They hurt like hell, and I hated it so much I called the road we drove on to get there "Tick Shot Road."

One time after walking through the brush for a whole day my wife pulled more than a hundred off of me.
