There are always zealots. Had they had the technology that today's terrorists have, you've got to wonder if they wouldn't have exploited those methods- especially when things got desperate.

You realize we can't really know, since this is sort of like "What if Attila had had machine guns?"- but the mob violence, and the extreme hands on cruelty suggest that it would certainly have been a possibility. The rebels did, after all, pioneer the use of guerilla tactics (which were considered very ignoble and immoral by the British).

Deliberate murder of civilians ordered by official US authorities.
