John C, I am beginning to agree. They say the shuttle project is to aid in the construction of the international space station, and we don't need that space station. All we need to do is send up defensive platforms that can blow any enemies away. Cape Canaveral could be kept as a museum type of tourist site, and it could be kept up by the ticket charges that they already are collecting. It is a good trip to see everything that is there, but a tourist can't see the real stuff anyway.

The problem once again may be that engineering 101 common sense gave way to PC. They made an error of assessment. But the stupidity was remaining on the EPA PC path. I still see lots of value in the basic R&D of creating a safe enviromment for humans in such a hostile place as space. I also believe one or two decades is still required before man interfaced machines can fully replace a human. To sit on the explosive energy needed to get humans in space one will live in danger. One can say the same for riding in a car, a train or a plain. But for real evil greed, it's those guys who make bath tubs. The potential energy of a human head a few feet up and slip and thwock. God did not design human heads to withstand such violent decelerations.
