I wasn't aware I was doing that. I think treating me appropriately would involve showing me the same courtesty I show you, and treating me as you would treat any person whom you do not know. In other words, I think I deserve to be treated with politeness, if not kindness, until I do something TO you that makes you think I deserve anything else.

That is, imo, what civilized people do. You can (and will), of course, treat me any way you like.
