"Righteousness is a societal construct. You grow up in one society and you think one way, you grow up in another and you think another way."

Nonsense, there are universal concepts that are self evident to people of all societies that define ‘righteousness’ as an essential quality of the natural and healthy human condition. Groups tend to co-opt such essential concepts and place them under their brand of ownership. Extremists, and otherwise corrupt individuals then use the brand name as justification for committing all kinds of transgressions against those not under their device of social identity.

Your explanation demonstrates the individual corruption of righteousness, rather than an understanding of the concept itself.
