As far as the Tea Party went , the Brits should have never tried to mess with our rum and molasses trade, when they passed the Molasses Tax Act in 1733 ...that really set the precedent . We defied them long before the Tea Party continuing to buy the French molasses from the west Indies. Average colonist drank about 5+gals of rum per annum easily ...still under todays Russian and 15gals of Vodka per year , but still made us a fairly rowdy bunch of traders 250yrs ago...very touchy we was abouts our rum.

1gal of molasses= 1gal of rum
