"Why just focus on the safety net? The problem is that the workers cannot earn enough to pay for the cost of their families within our society."

It is a package deal. Major college football coaches are getting paid over a million dollars, but colleges are only paying them around 20% of that. Why focus on the payroll number when the people looking for a place to work and raise a family don't? In your community, immigrants assess the total package of pay and social services. That is what attracts them. As long as the services are available, local farmers will be able to profit at the community’s expense. Do you want to perpetuate it?

"But who is getting the welfare?"

It appears we agree that while the immigrants are drawing the welfare and social services, that the farmers are the beneficiaries. On the other hand, I too am, because I pay less for my produce than a free market would demand.

If the safety net were dismantled, is it possible the land would be used differently? Is possible that society would benefit from a more efficient resource allocation?

The problem is that the workers cannot earn enough to pay for the cost of their families within our society. They must either work more hours/day, get paid more $/hr, or have lower living expenses.

Did you intentionally ignore the alternative of having only the family that they can afford?
