I don't know what to say. This is so out of line to what i am paying, $1.99 on sale , probably 3.49/pound normal price.

Do we live in the same country ?
And i am not complaining about prices, i want everyone to be able to charge enough for their products to make a decent living. Wouldn't the chicken guy or the pizza guy need to charge more money to survive if housing prices have recently tripled. I think so.

I am just making an observation.

Where are you shopping?
Yes, not on sale I have seen prices get to $1.89 or so but I will not pay that. Typically something is on sale. They had chuck roats at 2/3 off normal price yesterday. You can take those and they will grind that into hamburger for you for free. Oddly enough I do not even remember the price since I already stocked up earlier. I buy stuff and freeze it.

Now as for why?
When I lived in LITH (15 minutes from where I now live and I still shop there sometimes), there was on grocery store, a Jewel. Now at one intersection +- 1/4 mile we have
Jewel
Dominics
Costco
Meijer
and one other one whose name I can not remeber now.
Jewel was always packed all the time. Growth exploded but growth in stores exploded faster. I can walk into any of those stores and there is almost never a line when before there was always a line.

Ribeyes or strips not on sale $9.98 lb
Ribeyes or strips on Sale $4.98 lb
I see 50% off sales perhaps for 2 weeks every month.
There are times when it might be 1 week a month.
I never pay $9.98 for steaks.
I will not pay $4.59 or higher for center cut chops either.
Sometimes I will pony up $2.79 but I prefer $1.89 (seldom offered but it happens) to $2.29 (the latter happens once a month typically).

I stock up on whatever is on sale, provided I am not already loaded up on it. Chicken is on sale all the time. .49 for legs is a true bargain.

The last sale they did it a bit different.
They had chicken quarters (legs and thighs) for .69.
Legs by them selves were 1.29 and thighs by themselves were 1.29.

Now is this really a decision?
Actually it is to me.
Thighs are my least favorite piece so I did not buy at all.

I love halibut but it is never on sale and the last time I bought it fresh the damn stuff was spoiled. Really pissed me off. I have not seen good frozen halibut steaks for ages. So I dont buy any. I have seen individually wrapped frozen salmon at good prices so I buy those.

Now is my area that unique in terms of pricing competition?

Mish

Really want to get wiggy?

I think the bird flu thing is one big karmic payback for the what, 5 million chickens who get eaten every minute around the world?

I haven't eaten chicken in over 30 years. Ever watch it get "produced," you might not eat it either.
