Little Havana isnt so little. Are you aware that outside of Havana, Cuba Miami has the greatest Cuban population in the World? In Dade county if you are not bilingual you cannot get any kind of decent job. Friend of mine graduated with a Masters degree in teaching from Univ. of Miami. Couldnt speak Spanish fluently and couldnt get a teaching job, he moved to California.
I am aware of the "little Italy's in large northern cities, particularly the one in Cleveland, at least in my youth" however there is a big difference, the people there speak English, they have no choice. Here its MANDATORY that anyone working in the public sector MUST speak Spanish as well as English. My wife was Filipina by Birth. When she took her exam at the AMERICAN consulate in Miami she had to TAKE IT IN SPANISH. I went to the lunch counter while waiting for her in that same Consulate and NO ONE spoke a word of English. jdn
