Not sure what do you mean? Those are the US official figures for all their gold reserve, not ball park.

With Greenspan's speed of printing, those 8000 tons of gold is definitely NOT enough to back up the US$.

Well, as far as missing, that could be the gold.

Has not had an official audit in over 20 yrs; disturbing.
Used to be audited regularly.

Just enough for 1 oz per US person. But some goldies have
more than their fair share of the US supply.

As the US is supposed to have the largest holding, looks
like most of the worlds people have almost no chance of
holding even 1 oz of gold ever, as population is increasing
as fast as gold supply.

Even at much higher prices gold can only provide a store of
value for a small percentage of the worlds people. The ones
who get there first.
