The Q2:05 advance GDP estimate was close to both the SMR forecast and consensus forecast of 3.5% growth. The range of Q2 GDP estimates was from a low of 2.7% to a high of 4.1%.
Implications for monetary policy

Today's second quarter GDP report will not alter the course of Federal Reserve monetary tightening. Federal Reserve officials have made it clear that they are intent on unwinding the accommodative monetary policy stance that was put in place for the past several years. Thus, we see further Fed implementing of the Fed funds rate at 25 basis point increments over the balance of the year that will push the Fed funds rate to 4% or so by year's end.
