Just more Land of Oz stuff, inflation is has gone from red hot to only hot in my book. Anyway the CPI is just a big game, I'm not going to get lathered up about it anymore. The thing I'm focused on though, is the cognoscenti playbook, and the fact that they have three tough CPI comparisons ahead, including the one on 8/16 (for July):

Throw in favorable seasonality for energy

(and gold), hurricane season, etc, and it could get VERY interesting. Also throw in the fact that Greenspan's replacement should be announced, and that could get real dicey, especially if it's Helicoptor Ben. Meanwhile I expect the fallout from the Housing Bubble rollover to start hitting the fan. This purchase index falling below 400 ought to be clear and obvious confirmation, still at 485 on 7-22:

On the issue of WHAT the Fed funds rate ought to have been, versus what they have actually done (monetizied it), this is a chart worth glancing at:

What has this person from BCA been smoking? Low inflation? When are they going to stop mis-using that word, inflation?
