Roberts. Hiding his Bork society membership. WHY?

Why is he and the WH so up in arms over his being on the STEERING COMMITTEE of the Federalist Society to the point of saying it depends on what the meaning of 'membership' is.

Talk about Clintonian parsing! What is Roberts hiding? Why is he hiding it? Why is the WH want to so disconnect him from the Bork, er, Federalist Society?
