Temple Grandin is a fascinating person. I'd love to meet her. She's been the subject for a number of interesting think-pieces, including a long essay in the New Yorker and a couple of documentaries shown on TV, and several writers have devoted a chapter or two to her in their books.

She raises many interesting questions about the nature of human existence and the nature of consciousness.

But she is extremely high-functioning. Makes me wonder what kind of insight she can shed on common-garden autism.

My sister's husband has five siblings, all of which are doctors and nurses, and out of the many grandchildren, two are autistic and one has schizophrenia, while the rest are gifted (actually they're all gifted, even the ones with autism and schizophrenia). I wonder if autism is becoming more common, and if so, why.
