I'm mildly curious what may be your theory about that because I don't think any pro-choice Republican has any hope of being nominated at the top of the ticket any time soon, given the current make-up of party activists and primary voters.

The Social conservative Republicans are afraid of Hillary, and they want a winner. If they think they have to go with someone who is pro-choice to win, they will hold their nose and do so.
