I agree that the democratic party has pathetic follow through on issue like these.

As it stands right now we are trusting the electronic voting machine manufacturers that their machines count the votes correctly. That requires a little bit of blind faith, because 2 of the biggest electronic voting machine companies are owned by republicans. And the opportunity for rigging the machines is definitely there.

We are also trusting that the paper ballot tabulators are counting the votes properly. They test they run on the machines is the same every time and could be easily tampered with.

Personally I think this is an issue that crosses party lines. Every decent American should want that our voting process is fair and accurate. Right now we are just taking the voting machine companies' word for it that it is.
