He was a CIA analyst who retired in 1990. Here is one exchange from Frontpage. Ray McGovern is "saddened" - Saturday, July 02, 2005 11:56 AM Al-Jazeera's website features a story today on Ray McGovern, the former CIA analyst who is now saying that the war in Iraq is for oil and the War on Terror is caused by the Jews. The John Conyers show hearing imploded the other day when Democrats were forced to denounce its anti-Semitic subtext. The story "Ray McGovern Under Pressure" is by TV host Hesham Tillawi. McGovern was scheduled to be on the Al-Jazeera program to repeat his lies and probably complain about how the Jews who control Washington came down on him for his courage. The But Al-Jazeera show "Current Issues with Hesham Tillawi" had hosted the previous week a Holocaust denier who refers to the war in Iraq and as the "war in Iraq for Israel." McGovern called Tillawi to say he couldn't appear because he had been advised that the link would damage him and the cause. I had my own exchange with McGovern at a high school where leftist teachers had invited him to indoctrinate 300 high school students in his sordid opinions. This was part of a nationwide campaign leftists are conducting in American highschools to discourage volunteers for military service and sabotage the war effort. FrontPage will have a story on this shortly. As I wrote in an article recounting thye event, McGovern allowed me to debate him at the high school instead. His manner was unexpectedly cordial although he did bristle when I responded to his claims about the war on terror by saying that as a Jews I was aware that Jews had been scapegoated for unpleasant reallities like the war on terror for 2,000 years but that didn't make it any more pleasant hearing it from him. Apparently McGovern thinks attacking one's country's motives and behavior (we were in Iraq only for the oil, to kill innocents and to impose our will and Israel's on the Muslim world) and spreading anti-Semitic canards should be treated like a comment about yesterday's ballgame. When we posted a lead feature by Jacob Laksin on FrontPage about McGovern called "Questionable 'Intelligence,'" he sent me the following email. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ray McGovern" <rmcgovern@slschool.org> To: dhorowitz Sent: Thursday, June 30, 2005 11:37 AM Subject: Disappointed David, We were going to treat each other with respect. Did you forget? I am saddened. Ray I hate sanctimony and, accordingly, sent him the following reply: ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Horowitz" To: "Ray McGovern" <rmcgovern@slschool.org> Cc: "jacob laksin" Sent: Thursday, June 30, 2005 1:48 PM Subject: Amazed. I am amazed that you find our article by Jacob Laksin disrepectful. Why don't you spend time on your leftist friends' sites and see how they refer to me. You are a man who advocates treason; who blames the war on terror on the Jews and thus incites the global anti-Semites including your genocidal jihadist friends in the West Bank to slaughter people like me and the author of this piece, and yet you're hypersensitive about an article that sticks to the facts and doesn't even rise to the invective of John Conyers who finds your views "disgusting and offensive." No wonder you can't appreciate a civilized critique when it hits you on the head. You are disgrace to this country and to the men and women who serve it."frontpagemag.com
