are you trying to sell another nuance like Germany and France's double digit unemployment is better than our 5% unemployment?

For the people who are unemployed or underemployed........yes it is. And contrary to the way you think, not all people who are unemployed or underemployed choose to be in that position. Some have no choice and in this country, that means you may have to sell your soul to stay alive whereas in Germany you can survive albeit marginally on your unemployment check.

So that you clearly understand.......this money is money that otherwise would go to the CEOs of energy companies and their shareholders in the form of subsidies. Germany chooses to use its national resources to assist the average citizen instead of the wealthy like this country.

One of my German friends is an architect and currently unemployed. He has an excellent resume and has worked for two of the best architects in the world. Twice he has been offered a job only to have it pulled at the last minute because a proposed project fell through. Architect jobs in Germany are far and few between right now.

For the past 7 months he has lived off his savings. He was too proud to take unemployment. However, if he can't get a job by Dec., his savings will be gone and he will have Germany's unemployment package to fall back on.........its the only thing that is keeping him sane right now.

Only foolish/naive people vote to empower the rich; unfortunately, that is all too common in this country as evidenced by the recent energy bill that was passed without a squeal from American citizens.

Stupid is as stupid does!

I'm not saying that this is the case, but do you honestly not see any way in which this could be?
