I believe you...the lure of cheap labor for contractors etc. is hard to turn down. People love the cheap labor but don't realize the consequences.

No. I think they are spineless in fear of losing the "illegal immigrant vote"...that mainly being the latin, chinese or haitian vote...that in sympathy would vote against any politician wanting to enforce immigration laws .
As fo Bush, it's even a family thing and a cheap labor for business thing.

Personally I think work permits would be OK if some of the other laws were tightened.
