Auschwitz is in Poland, not that far from the German border. To bomb Poland from, say, England, you'd have to cross the English channel, and fly all the way over Netherlands, France or Denmark, then all the way over Germany to Poland, and back.

If you look at a map of Europe you'll get an idea why it was the Red Army that liberated Auschwitz, not us. We never even got as far east as Berlin.

It does irk me that our sacrifices in liberating Europe are thrown back in our faces as not being good enough because we didn't do it fast enough, or soon enough, and we didn't save enough people, and we were too hard on the Germans (Dresden) and so forth.

We save the world from Hitler and do we get any gratitude? No.
