Hi MIke,
Won't argue vietnam with you but enjoyed the article. Personally i never bought in to the greatest generation mythology although i would never minimize the role they played during WW2. And yes during Vietnam there were too many yes men among them at least at the start. JFK is a perfect example of WW2 hero who initially bought into the comparisons between WW2 and the Cold War that led us to places like vietnam in the first place. Both the Nazis and Soviets were evil empires but the challenges were different. Nazis engaged in hot war but the Soviets, who were far more cautious, we could contain and deter.
Thats enough now for the first post since i got back from vacation. Spent a week on Long Beach Island NJ in a huge house on the ocean with kids and grandkids and celebrated my 60th with friends who came down for a day. What a beautiful place and what a beautiful week we had getting reaquained with each other. Hope your summer is going well too. I expect to do some more wrastling with you down the road but today i am still mellow. Mike
