In the end it came down to Ohio where Bush cheated.
The only question is, how deep did the cheating go and was it enough to make the difference? The only evidence so far was an obvious intent (which succeeded) to under-supply black precincts so they had to wait up to 8 hours to vote. While in white conservative precincts there was no waiting at all. Christopher Hitchens investigated and stated that this may have cost Kerry 40,000 votes. But then there's the Diebold question --- and scandals are brewing in Ohio --- the whole story may yet come out.

Remember also, Bush was blanketing Ohio with non-stop 100% dishonest Tv ads using the smearvets lies and BS about Kerry being "weak on defense" to try and scare the patriotic Ohio voters. Last week with CAFTA, Bush probably cost Ohio another 50,000 jobs.
