What's the real deal? And how does it work? Each Special Operations Force has their expertise. SAS is the best in one area I know of...celestial navigation. They are also good at tearing each others shirts off in bar fights. Good recon men and excellent ambushers. SEALS are best in attacks in and from the sea and rivers. USAF Combat Controllers are the best in calling in pinpoint airstrikes. Army Rangers are the best in medium size assaults and medium range reconnaissance. USMC Force Recon would argue that and may be right to. There are other Special Operations Forces. Special Forces team members are quite capable in all these areas and every A team has at least one expert in each area. For proof I offer this. Every Special Operations Force tries to send some of their members to specific SF Training Group classes and they constantly request A Team training support...such requests are almost always turned down and some are invited to apply for the entire program. We were good in my day. But today's SFers could run circles around us...and all the others too. The make-up of an SF A Team has not changed in 53 years. It remains the world gold standard for unconventional warfare. 2 Officers Team/Operations Sergeant Intell NCO 2 weapons experts 2 communications experts 2 explosives and demolition experts 2 Combat Medical experts Every man is trained and cross-trained in every team specialty as well as the skills of other Special Operations Forces.
