I just realized that I think about terrorists the same way I think about HIV.

While it's true that you're more likely to get AIDS from unprotected sex with a homosexual, a prostitute, or a junkie, you can't really tell just by looking at someone whether they're HIV positive or not.

In fact, the most improbable people have contracted HIV and spread it without realizing it.

Odds are against it, but the risk of an incurable, dreadful disease is too grave for me to discount. Same thing with terrorism. The risk of being blown apart by a nail bomb or a fiery explosion in an airplane is too horrible to discount.

Trust, but verify.
