Perhaps but it does put us in a ridiculous situation. Here we are threatening to do whatever to Iran, trying to also prop up and embolden the government in Iraq while the two of them are playing very nicely with each other. Didn't the Iraqi PM just visit the grave of Khomeini? It's ridiculous. Yes, the aged al-Sistani, little heard from these days, is apparently still the most influential person in Iraq. This puts to lie the yammerings about 'it's not a theocracy' when it comes to whatever will pop up on August 15th.
