Phil > But this latest report doubles even that time to about 10 years. Maybe that is why the Americans have kind of put this issue to the back burner?

In my cynical way, I would put it the other way around. I would say the US is no longer so keen to strike Iran and the 10year report justifies that position. And I imagine this attitude to Iran has arisen from the Shiite dominated democratic government in Iraq which the US does not want to upset -- indeed, I would say is doing whatever it can to assist.

Of course, this apparent volte-face cannot be pleasing to the neocons who have delusions of the complete destruction of Islam and an American Empire extending from the Mid-East to Alaska and who, one imagines, will be doing whatever possible to promote conflict with Iran. So we'll just have to wait and see what actually happens?

Meanwhile, articles about an impending US pull-out from Iraq continue to appear:

>>As Iraqi leaders reaffirmed their decision to finish writing the country's constitution by the middle of the month, the new American ambassador here spoke in specific terms about the pending withdrawal of American troops from the country.<<
